A UI/UX study

Fourteen Renderings

One blog — 12 posts, the same words, the same photographs — rendered in 14 design languages. The content is the control variable. Everything you see change is the design.

Inside any style, press ← → to step between them and G for the full list. Your position is kept, so you can compare the same post across all 14.

  1. 01Minimalism1960s — ongoingRemove until only the argument is left. Space does the work that decoration would have done.
  2. 02Swiss Design1950s Basel & ZürichThe grid is the design. Objective typography, flush-left, ranged on a baseline nobody is allowed to break.
  3. 03BrutalismWeb, c. 2014Unstyled HTML as a position. Default fonts, raw links, visible structure, zero comfort.
  4. 04NeoBrutalismc. 2020Brutalism after it got a colourist. Hard black outlines, flat offset shadows, primary blocks that shout.
  5. 05Maximalismc. 2018 — ongoingMore, deliberately. Clashing type, layered pattern, saturated collage — abundance treated as a design system.
  6. 06Surrealism1924 — ongoingThe layout dreams. Impossible scale, floating cutouts, elements that escape the frame they were given.
  7. 07Bohemianc. 2015 — ongoingHandmade warmth. Terracotta and clay, arch shapes, paper grain, type that looks written rather than set.
  8. 08Etherealc. 2021Light with the edges taken off. Bloom, low contrast, thin serifs, everything one step from dissolving.
  9. 09Skeuomorphism2007 — 2013Pixels pretending to be objects. Stitched leather, bevels, gloss, and a drop shadow under everything.
  10. 10Neumorphism2019One surface, extruded. Twin light and dark shadows push controls out of the background — or press them in.
  11. 11Claymorphism2021Inflated and friendly. Huge radii, pastel fills, a puffy double shadow that reads as modelling clay.
  12. 12Glassmorphism2020Frosted panes stacked in depth. Background blur and a hairline highlight stand in for hierarchy.
  13. 13Liquid GlassApple, 2025Glass that bends light. Real-time refraction, specular highlights that track motion, chrome that morphs.
  14. 14Spatial UIvisionOS, 2023Flat surfaces given a z-axis. Panels float at measured depths, lit by an ambient room that is not there.

Ratio is fictional. The written analysis of each style lives in this site's docs/styles/.
